A lifelong musician, Karen loves the exploratory possibilities in sound, and the power of music for expression and connection. Trained first as a pianist, her experiences have branched out to include guitar/ukulele, percussion, and vocal training, as well as certifications as a licensed Music Together™ teacher, a member of the improvisation group Music for People™, and her board certification in Music Therapy (MT-BC). Her special focus is music improvisation, with any variety of instruments and voice, which helps build confident, social musicians and fosters learning music fundamentals. (Throw a kazoo and some crazy percussion in there for fun.)
Either in private lessons or facilitated groups, time spent making music with Karen is grounded in the philosophy that all children and adults are musical. Supportive music making for people of any level of experience can promote self-expression, self-esteem, and improve music skills, life skills, and more. When she’s not making sound, Karen can be found swimming, quilting, running her dogs, driving tractors, and hanging out with her four amazing kids.
