Infinity Joins Global #GivingTuesday Movement!

Infinity has once again joined #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide.

Infinity’s INSTILL (Infinity Network of Students Training for Independent Leadership Level) Program encourages students to learn marketable skills while using their creative voices and talents. Young people work with a variety of mentors through hands-on learning experiences within the arts, based on a learning track of their choice.

This year’s #GivingTuesday initiative will raise funds to purchase a new camcorder and editing software for Infinity students who are pursuing a learning track in Videography.

These students write scripts, direct and record short films, marketing pieces, music videos, and more, and then learn to edit them using computer software that is standard with the industry. By providing quality materials for our students to work and learn with, they are learning skills that give them an edge when they enter college and the workforce.

Occurring this year on November 28, #GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (in the US) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday to kick off the holiday giving season and inspire people to collaborate in improving their local communities and to give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support.

Infinity joined #GivingTuesday to spark the spirit of giving in Chautauqua County. Last year’s initiative successfully provided nearly $1,500 in scholarship assistance to students at the Infinity Center. This year, Infinity is hoping to raise $2,500 to support the purchase of a new camcorder, memory cards, and video editing software for our Videography students. #GivingTuesday will kick off the campaign, and donations to this project will be accepted until December 31. All donations are tax-deductible!

Pulse Poetry Slam

Pulse Poetry Open Mic ft. ODD?ROD

Thursday, Nov. 2 | 6:00PM | Infinity Arts Cafe | FREE, family-friendly event. | Sign up at event!

Born to a drug-addicted mother and an absent father, Roderick Borisade struggled hard in life during his preteen years. After losing his older brother to cancer in 1996, he named himself “Odd?Rod”. He went against the odds and pushed himself through high school to earn a full college scholarship to UNF. Starting an open mic at college, he developed leadership and speaking skills that brought in 200 students a month to express themselves. There, he learned that his story of perseverance was helping others to cope with what they were going through. It was that notion that catapulted him into every school, rehab, and jail that he could to let people know that they can make it too. Since 2011, he’s toured over 350 colleges and earned many awards including 2014 & 2016 APCA Spokenword Artist of the Year. In October of 2016, he received a standing ovation for his performance at TedxJacksonville’s “Fear Less” conference which led to becoming a speaker at TEDxTuscaloosa the following April. Most importantly, he’s inspired a nation of people to push through every obstacle placed before them and live their lives as leaders.

This event is free, family-friendly, and therefore open to an audience and performers of all ages. True to all things Infinity, the Pulse Poetry Slam allows everyone to express themselves artistically. Performance poetry is an excellent way practice and perfect performance and public speaking in general.
